Sheringham Woodfields School has just celebrated 20 successful years of education since its official opening by HRH The Princess Anne in 2003.
On 11th September 2023, the school’s guest of honour, Lady Dannatt MBE, Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk, joined pupils, former staff members and representatives of Norfolk County Council in the school hall for a day of celebration. Lady Dannatt and guests enjoyed a tour of the school where pupils work was displayed and admired, after which The Lady Dannatt presented Pupil Award Certificates to pupils from within the Sixth Form.
Annette Maconochie, Head Teacher, spoke enthusiastically about the celebrations, saying: “20 successful years of specialist education is a milestone worth celebrating. On the day, there was something for everyone to enjoy. The school organised a magician, a balloon sculptor, a face painter and Bertie’s Amazing Creatures. By special request from the pupils, we were able to enjoy a disco with a professional DJ and singing along to a karaoke. We all had a wonderful day and look forward to seeing what the next 20 years have in store.”
Sheringham Woodfields School has come a long way since it opened its doors in 2003 when around 26 young people, all with complex needs, crossed the school’s threshold. Since then, countless numbers of children and young people have benefitted from the teaching and care of its dedicated staff. Today, the school has 155 pupils, and an additional two pupils joining in January 2024.
Sheringham Woodfields School is a purpose-built school for pupils with complex learning and health needs situated on the outskirts of Sheringham. It offers exceptional facilities both within the school buildings and in the outside play areas, and it now employs over 160 members of staff to teach and care for its pupils.
During the Summer Holidays, the team at Hay Travels completed a sponsored bike ride, with proceeds coming to Sheringham Woodfields School.
Today, 22nd September 2023, pupils from Willow Class along with Jake Millin (Class Teacher and Upper School Lead) collected a cheque for an amazing £630.00 from the team at Hays Travel in Sheringham (https://www.haystravel.co.uk/sheringham-branch)
A very big thank you to everyone who donated so generously and to the team at Hays Travel who hosted the event and did many miles on the bicycle.
Pupils and staff from Elm Class visited Blickling Hall (National Trust) on Friday 30th September 2022 to enjoy a Frozen Light Production (https://www.frozenlighttheatre.com/) of a ‘Night Out In Nature’.
Night Out In Nature is a outdoor sensory installation performance for audiences with profound and multiple learning disabilities (more information available here: frozenlighttheatre.com/currentshows/nightoutinnature)
All pupils (and Staff!) had an amazing time exploring everything on offer during the morning session. Its the first time the School has been able to access such an event at Blickling Hall…. and we hope it won’t be the last.

When you drive past Sheringham High School do you ever
notice the newer, single story building to the right of the main school?
Like most people you probably assume it’s part of the High
School but it’s not; it’s an entirely separate school, Sheringham Woodfields.
Woodfields is a remarkable and unique place in many ways.
Most significantly, all our children have complex special needs (SEND). Here
are a few other things that make Woodfields a very special place:
We cover all stages of schooling, with children
from three to 19 years old on site.
Our classes are not grouped by age but by needs
and ability.
We do not have a traditional catchment area and
have pupils attending from as far afield as Great Yarmouth and Kings Lynn.
We are currently building a state-of-the-art
Physical Therapy Centre which will be the most advanced facility of its kind in
the UK. It will be used by school and the wider community.
The new build has increased our pupil capacity
from 111 to 135 pupils, a significant increase in SEND capacity in line with
government strategy.
We employ around 150 staff, making us the
biggest employer in Sheringham.
We were rated ‘Outstanding’ at our last OFSTED
inspection (January 2019).
We have close working links with, and are fully
supported by, our District and County Councils and our local MP.
We remained open throughout lockdown and now are
teaching 75% of our children.
We have a fantastic reputation with parents and
professionals across Norfolk.
We are one of the largest suppliers of short
breaks in the county, providing after-school and holiday clubs for our
children.
We need your help.
Following the sad and unexpected death of our Chair of
Governors, the much loved and respected Carole Fields, our already stretched
Governing Body is now urgently in need of new recruits.
We are seeking individuals who are willing to give up a
little of their time, we meet six times a year, to support a brilliant team of
dedicated staff who enrich the lives of some of our most challenged, and
challenging, children.
We would like to talk to individuals from any background;
education, business, public or third sector. If you’d like to find out more, please
contact me for an informal chat.
Thank you.

Pupils from the the secondary department enjoyed a fully funded trip to London on Thursday 13th June 2019 to watch Aladdin in the West End. Setting off early from School, pupils travelled via coach with a stop off at Birchanger Services. The afternoon performance of Aladdin was enjoyed by over 30 pupils from the school.
A big thank you to Neen for organising another successful London Theatre Trip. A thank you must also go to the staff who worked many extra hours to support this trip and make it possible.
Whilst some of the secondary pupils enjoyed a trip to London, those remaining at the school got to enjoy a sweet treat over lunch. Instead of the normal dessert, the school provided an ice cream van for pupils (and staff) to enjoy.
