How do we work with NHS Speech and Language Therapist?

We work very closely with the NHS Speech and Language Therapists. Pupils have to be referred to the Speech and Language Therapist through the school when pupils join the school and there is an identified communication need and then as their communication needs change through the school.

The Speech and Language Therapists will observe pupils in class and then produce a report with Aims and Objectives for the school setting to implement.  For some pupils they may advise more targeted support for a short period of time to be undertaken by Speech and Language Therapist before discharging them from the NHS caseload.  Pupils can easily be referred again by parents or class teachers.

The SENCo has termly meetings with the Speech and Language Therapists to discuss individual pupil’s progress and to discuss new referrals and training needs.  School staff can discuss communication difficulties and ask for advice at any time.
